 About Us

PIRSG is not a professional or medical organization and does not provide medical advice. The PIRSG was founded by those who felt that traditional medication-based approaches to pain management had failed them and needed support for abstinence-based pain relief and recovery. We exist to help others who feel as we do. PIRSG does not tell anyone to abstain from the use of medication for pain relief and instead leaves that decision to the individual seeking to recover. We suggest that anyone currently attending another twelve-step fellowship consult their sponsor in that fellowship if they have questions about the true meaning of abstinence as it applies to them. We consider PIRSG to be a supplement and not a replacement for addiction recovery programs.

We acknowledge and respect the work done by other twelve-step fellowships and our goal is to serve as an additional resource for those who seek pain recovery. We have found that pain recovery and addiction recovery present similar challenges. The twelve-step model is a proven method of addressing addiction recovery and we feel it will help many who also wish to achieve pain recovery. We understand issues faced by those who feel there must be an answer to their chronic pain and who feel their continued use of prescription medication has become problematic.
